Juan Carlos Carretero received his Ph.D. from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) in 1985 with Prof. José L. García Ruano. After postdoctoral studies at the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium) with Prof. Léon Ghosez, he joined the Department of Organic Chemistry of the UAM and became Associate Professor in 1988 and Professor of Organic Chemistry in 2000. His research interests are focused on developing new methodologies in asymmetric catalysis, C–H functionalization and stereocontrolled metal-catalyzed processes.

Inés Alonso Montero received her Ph.D from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Spain, in 1993 under the supervision of Prof. José L. García Ruano and Prof. Juan C. Carretero. After postdoctoral studies in the Organic Chemistry Institute at CSIC in Madrid (with Dr. N. Khiar in Prof. M. Martín Lomas’s group) and at the University of Cambridge (UK, with Prof. P. Raithby), in 1995 she returned to the Department of Organic Chemistry of the UAM, where she became Associate Professor in 2006. In 2001, in collaboration with Prof. M. Alcamí (Department of Chemistry of the UAM) she began her work on computational chemistry. Her current research is driven by puzzling mechanistic questions in the areas of asymmetric catalysis, stereocontrolled metal-catalyzed reactions and carbon–hydrogen.
